Entropy Microsystems has started as an incubator group of students working since 1994 and established in 1998 as a start-up company. The incubator idea is developed and supported by Mr. Ergün Özakat who is retired businessman and currently Honorary Consul of Finland and Honorary Chairman of Entropy Microsystems. Kutlukhan Kaynakçioglu who is a lawyer and Chairman of Entropy Microsystems legally framed the idea.
The core team has started to work in incubator’s electronics lab in 1994 to produce small software and hardware parts for consumer and industrial use. The workshop was a small think-tank student activity to promote life long education and to search for good opportunities in information technology, generally in electronics. These workshop activities have gained momentum with Ahmet Ali Akkaş, who was a sophomore student in D.E.University, Electrical and Electronics Department but now graduated and second year master student. He spiraled out and proved himself among many others with a fire inside to be a “wannabe” and the team decided to establish a small company with him as the central player to take an active place in high technology road to future.
The search for what is in our capabilities for success forced us change several directions with small budgets, virtual bankruptcy experiments in the incubator with lessons, taught and learnt. To be involved in an incubator activity is to be in a mutual trust development process with great living experience in a small environment, for both the student and the teacher.
During the incubator years various software projects were delivered and have been implemented successfully by clients. About the same time Entropy group have been technically involved in the development of a 7.2 MW wind energy power plant (ARES, Alaçatı Rüzgar Enerjisi Santrali). It was many years of hard work by Honorary Chairman Ergün Özakat who brought this work to the company. Due to administrative and legal problems with the government the project took several years of efforts of Entropy team.
The project is realized now - ARES – being the product of Entropy Microsystems and Interwind AG, a Swiss wind energy consulting company. The first wind farm project of Turkey, ARES, has been successfully constructed and producing nearly 18 million kWh clean energy per annum since 1999.
Entropy Microsystems is a future oriented company with realistic day-to-day living experience. It has seen the wind energy development business as a flagship within its activities and the company is playing a very meaningful role in the wind business in Turkey today.
In view of the fact that there is a great demand in high technology based software all around the world and that Entropy team is technology oriented, we have always kept software development in close mind.
The company will continue giving software development priority amongst its activities. Entropy has accumulated enough experiences, capabilities and ample facilities for this target. The challenge of keeping the technical, entrepreneurial and managerial skills embodied in our management team is kept fresh by successful results.
We have a vision to make our company and our country among the best in the world in this field. Our understanding is hard work with best solutions. Our competitors are our own minds.
An important part of the mission of the incubator managements is to bring together new human resources and capacities with commercially experienced people and companies from the active business life. When established companies are linked up with the graduate companies of the incubators like Entropy Microsystems, a high synergy of new thinking and inspiration is very likely to result. The only requirement is a mutual understanding and respect for each other so that a creative environment can be achieved.
It is our belief that we have many talented people in Turkey. The kind of acquired experience, which we have accumulated over the years, is essential to bring out the fire in people to make them perform in the most creative and productive way.
If we are trusted upon, we shall do the very best to make the big vision possible. We shall select and create teams of many ambitious and visionary people under one umbrella in a very short time, to work uninterruptedly with more reasonable cost than anywhere else in the country.
We are looking forward for such a challenge to make our vision come through.
Entropy
Microsystems’ software team uses the latest software development technologies in
the development cycle and as such both conventional and rapid development types.
Our software team is well trained and experienced in making use of different
tools like Delphi, C++, Visual Basic and Java. Many applications and code snippets have
been developed in Windows, Dos, and Unix based platforms.
Many state of
the art technology web applications have gained functionality with ASP, PHP – in
server side, and Java Script and VB Script – in client side, scripting
languages. Also many COM and ActiveX objects have been designed and successfully
integrated with these Internet applications where the capabilities of the
Internet browser and scripting languages are limited or undesirable to use. In
the server side Internet applications ISAPI DLLs and/or CGI executables have
been designed where high response speed required and Internet server’s software
and hardware capabilities are limited.
Oracle, SQL
server, Interbase, Postgre SQL, MySQL database server systems in client-server
applications and small scale database systems, Paradox, MS Access, Dbase,
Btrieve and Fox-Pro are extensively used in standalone desktop software
developments.
Since Entropy
Microsystems is an incubator start-up company its members are from the highly
educated and skilled people from the Universities’ Electrical and Electronics
Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics departments. Although Entropy
Microsystems does not offer full time employment to them in its own structure
due to its size and limited facilities, these people work with Entropy
Microsystems with great enthusiasm and pleasure because of the innovative
environment they find in our philosophy for the living and working
life-style.
The leader of
the technical team is Mr. Ahmet Ali Akkaş, who is a graduate of Ozakat
incubator. He is an Electronics Engineer and currently studying a master degree
in communications and new emerging technologies in IYTE – İzmir High Technology
Institute. The company vision is to advance by using research and development in
computer machine technologies, in speech recognition and image processing.
The company
also developed a methodology in wind business for estimating the wind speeds.
The methodology makes use of reference data from the nearby meteorology station
and estimates long-term variations in order to make a viable wind energy project
for the next 20 years. The methodology is actually a procedure extensively
making use of wavelets – the latest signal analysis and processing tool, and
neural networks – multi layer perceptron.
One of the key technologies of the methodology of the estimation method
is the self-similarity search using various pattern recognition techniques.
Ergün Özakat: Honorary Chairman. Currently: Honorary Consul of Finland in İzmir, during active years in Industrial and Banking business life he was a dedicated member and Board Member of TUSIAD in the early foundation years, founder and active Board Member of EGETEK (an NGO Foundation which has an extensive web page http://www.egetek.org/ containing information in technology innovation and renewable energies). Mr. Ozakat is actively involved at present in Habitat Gundem 21 Agenda in the Municipality of Izmir.
He devotes the last part of his life for reasons that will make our people and the country to live affluent with love and respect forever while still keeping among the developed nations.
Education background: Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (1954-1959) London. Electrical and Electronics Engineering by Correspondence from U.S.A.
Kutlukhan
Kaynakçıoğlu: Chairman of Entropy Microsystems. Member of Turkish Swedish
Friendship Association. Lawyer by profession with 16 years of practice both in
England and in Turkey. He recently moved all his energy to innovative business
practices. He is the only lawyer in Turkey with an experience of more than 6
years of incubator agreements with ambitious technology people and in start-up
company issues. Making the entrepreneur the owner of the business from the
beginning while keeping the ambitions of a “wannabe” alive is not only a matter
of law. It is beyond that. To imbibe being honest to yourself and to stay
respectful to your angels even under crisis is part of the responsibility of the
incubator management. Always keeping in mind that creativity, hard work,
persistence is crucial for the ultimate success.
Entropy Microsystems’ core team has started to develop archiving and inquiry software for İzmir Police department in 1995. The Izmir Police Department uses this software for the purpose of storing criminal records for investigation purposes. The database contains criminological data including photograph, finger print photos with their formula and appearance. The software also stores evidence from the places where the crime occurred.
The software has been developed using Delphi, Borland International, with Oracle or Interbase database systems. Also the software is using thin client structure with Borland’s MIDAS technology. This multi-tiered structure allows access from mobile police stations to the central database.
This software has been used in İzmir police department since 1996. Latest integration of the software has been made in Bodrum police department in 2000.
This is new software, which is designed for use in quality assurance department of companies. At the latest stage of development, the scope of the software has been extended to cover all document management issues in a company.
This software is designed to solve the problem of our evaluations of wind data since many years where excel was used originally and it had become very slow and cumbersome to make an analysis with different combinations of output. All wind energy projects require a careful assessment of measured data from the vicinity of the project area. This careful evaluation is a must required by financial investors for a viable wind energy project before an investment is decided. Winsite is designed as a careful well thought software with plenty of expansion possibilities if required that can calculate energy throughput for the wind-park with financial return, IRR etc. The software makes use of very sophisticated highly reliable mathematics and physics techniques. The wind speed, wind direction, temperature and pressure at different heights every 10 seconds averaged and stored at 10 minutes intervals, more than 60,000 lines, 900,000 points of data all year round. This large data collected by a special purpose electronics computer device (data logger).
The Winsite software utilizes well-known statistical data analysis, recently developed signal processing techniques to maintain wind data and to predict long term variations and energy projections for the future. The MCP (Measure Predict and Correlate) module of the software is responsible to establish correlations between short-term project region and long-term far-site meteorology measurements. The module is heavily using wavelets and spectrum analysis techniques of latest developments in science and communications technology. We believe we are the first in the world to use this technology. We arrived at this conclusion at the wind energy seminar held last year in Cesme from the admiration of our foreign associates who attended the seminar and who were surprised to see our use of such an highly technical, innovative and accurate solution to a difficult problem.
The program has been developed with Delphi and since 1997 is used by Entropy Microsystems Wind Energy and Interwind, a Swiss wind energy development company. Many features and improvements have been added and tested since and at the moment we are negotiating to sell it in other countries from November 2001 onwards.
The Microsoft’s ASP (Active Server Pages) technology is a simple scripting language with a few built-in library features and the capabilities of whether Java Script or Visual Basic Scripting languages. ASP technology of course can not support mail sending and receiving features. EntroMail is an ASP COM (Common Object Model) object providing support for POP3 and SMTP mail protocols with a database features. EntroMail is actually a framework for web-based e-mail access like Hotmail.
Plathome is a web application powered by ASP technology and specific server and client side ActiveX objects and utilities. Plathome in general is an online Internet community framework with the combinations of powerful features from well-known Internet services like Hotmail and Yahoo E-Groups.
Plathome provides e-mail accounts for all students, teachers and parents with an Internet community fashion with full support of group-wise actions in a class or sub-community. With full calendar support and absence control, parents can easily check and follow-up their children. Virtual meetings in Internet can be possible between teacher and parents with chat feature of Plathome.
Entropy Microsystems is almost finalizing the last stage developments of Plathome. Early pilot integration of Plathome will be made in the beginning of first educational year.
Entropy Microsystems’ web publishing team has also been designing and publishing many Internet pages for our web clients. Some of web pages are dynamically generated via ASP and PHP technology with SQL database connectivity.
